Asthma is a condition in which swelling of the lungs occurs with the production of excess mucus.
Asthma is of three types including Non-allergic asthma, Allergic asthma, and Cough-variant asthma.
Symptoms like difficulty in breathing, coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when a person breathes out and shortness of breath can be seen in asthma patients.
Treatment of asthma:
Symptoms of asthma can be managed by using rescue inhalers(salbutamol) and controller inhalers.
Serious cases might require longer-acting inhalers which keep the respiratory tract open (salmeterol, formoterol, tiotropium), as well as inhalant steroids(anti-inflammatory medicines used to treat a range of conditions).
