Solution

Carbon:

It is the basic component of all organic compounds such as carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. Carbon is found in different forms such as elements, compounds, gases, and salts on the earth, but most of the carbon in the atmosphere exists in the gaseous form of Carbon dioxide(CO2).

Addition of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere:

  1. Carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere by the respiration of plants and animals, by the burning of fossil fuels, and by dead remains of plants and animals.
  2. Carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere during the respiration of producers (green plants) and consumers(animals)
  3. Carbon dioxide is added during the decomposition of organic compounds of dead bodies.
  4. Carbon dioxide is also added by the burning of fossil fuels such as wood, coal, and petroleum.
