How coal is formed? What are the products formed when coal is burnt?

Formation of coal:-

  1. Coal is formed when dead plant matter decays into peat and is converted into coal by the heat and pressure of deep burial over millions of years.
  2. Some iron and steel making and other industrial processes burn coal.
  3. The extraction and use of coal cause many premature deaths and many illnesses.

Products formed when coal is burnt:-

  1. If coal is heated in the presence of air, then coal burns to produce mainly carbon dioxide gas and no other useful products were obtained.
  2. Other products obtained are heat and light.
  3. It is a gaseous fuel which is obtained by the strong heating of coal in the absence of air during the processing of coal to get the coke.
