Biodiversity:
Biodiversity refers to the entire variety of plants, animals, and microorganisms inhabiting an area.
The sustenance of biodiversity in any given area is important as it maintains the balance required to support life.

Biodiversity can be calculated by measuring the number of species present in a given area.
Pooling the genes of a species gives the measure of genetic diversity of the species/area.
It is measured based on two criteria - species richness and species evenness.
