Culture played an important role in the rise of nationalism in India. Nationalism in India rose once Indians started having a feeling of pride about the culture of India. Nationalist writers and historians wrote about India's cultural heritage and historical achievements. This enabled Indians to shed the feeling of inferiority that they had developed under British rule. They came to realize that they were the inheritors of an ancient and glorious civilization. Hence, they were fully capable and deserving of govering their own country. This feeling contributed to a rise of nationalism in India.
