Solution
Hershey and Chase performed a series of experiments to prove that the DNA is the genetic material.
They took bacteriophages that contained the radioactive sulphur and radioactive phosphorous.
The bacteriophages were then made to infect the bacterial cells and these cells were then studied. The cells that were infected with the radioactive sulphur had protein with radioactive sulphur and not the genetic material. The bacterial cells that were infected with the radioactive phosphorus and phosphorous in the cells.
This lead Hershey and Chase to conclude that DNA is the genetic material.
