  • Technological advancements were adopted by the handicraftsmen if it did not push up their costs
  • Most of the labour force was employed in the small workshops and household units, often located in alleys and bylanes.
  • Embroidery by skilled handicraftsmen could not be imitated by the machines.
  • There was stability in the demand from the richer classes for the embroidered sarees, lungis and handkerchieves by the skilled weavers.
