Dear student,
South Africa was ruled by White minority government till 1994. This government enforced a segregation of races with its policy called apartheid. The apartheid government eventually agreed to share power with the Blacks after decades with lots of struggle, armed opposition and mass protests from the Blacks. The white government realised that it was no longer possible to keep the blacks under their rule through repression. Thus, the apartheid government came to an end giving rise to a democratic, multi racial government. Finally, at the midnight of 26 April 1994, the new national flag of the Republic of South Africa was unfurled giving birth to a new form of democracy to the world.
Regards.
