How did Tea Estates developed?

Tea estates developed once the British discovered tea in Assam. They took over large tracts of land on hillsides and gave them to tea planters. The planters obtained workers mainly from the Chota Nagpur plateau and took them to Assam. These workers then developed the tea estates.
