Solution: In 1600 A.D. , English East India Company got permission from Queen Elizabeth of England to carry out trade with the eastern countries. Hence, under the leadership of Captain Wiliam Hawkins, the first ship arrived in India at Surat.Initially they were not able to establish any trade centre due to the dominance of Portuguese in that region.Finally , they got permission from the Mughal Emperor Jahangir and established their first trade centre in Surat in 1613 A.D.
