Instructions: Mention the growth disparity between different regions of Andhra Pradesh before the formation of Telangana.
Solution:
The growth between the urban areas and the rural areas had created major conflicts of interest in the expectations of the government.
The remote rural areas were completely left out in the development process due to the lack of resources along with the lack of will to implement and diversification strategies were not implemented in these areas.
The increase in irrigation in Telangana was mainly at the cost of the farmers who dug expensive wells, while the expansion in Andhra region was due to canal irrigation which was provided by the government. From 1993 to 1994, the income from the agriculture sector was about Rs. 7,800 for both the regions. But by 2007, it steadily rose to Rs. 11,800 in the Andhra region, while there was no such steady increase for Telangana and it rose to only around Rs. 10,000.
The Coastal Andhra region was a plain land consisting of many deltas with a well developed canal irrigation system, catering to all the agricultural activities. They played a major role in the development of the region, as there were a plethora of industries that were established here, and the ports guaranteed smooth trade.
On the other hand, Telangana was a dry plateau region, which depended entirely on rainfed agriculture. They made good use of their undulating terrain and built tanks to store water, which was used to cultivate a variety of crops. The residents of Telangana also counted on animal herding and collecting forest essentials for their livelihood.
