Solution: With the arrival of five European powers in India, there started a tussle among them for acquiring dominance over the Indian territories. The English and the French East India companies emerged more powerful than the others.Their military supremacy and the desire to expand their territories led them to enter into a series of three great wars between 1746 A.D. and 1763 A.D. These wars were known as Karnataka wars or Carnatic wars. The English East India Company emerged victorious, thus establishing their dominance among all European powers. The Portuguese were cornered with few trade centres , while the Dutch finally left the country. Finally, the British Company established a strong foothold on the Indian territories. Thus, we can conclude that the Karnataka/Carnatic wars proved to be a milestone for the English East India Company in establishing their supremacy.
