After the assassination of Julius Caesar there were widespread rebellions in Rome. Caesar's nephew Octavius took revenge against those who had conspired against Caesar. He captured power and brought peace to Rome. With this, the republican government came to an end. He called himself 'Princep' or the First citizen of the state.
