The civil rights movement was fought and won on the principles of non-violence under Martin Luther's leadership. However, there was a different viewpoint too. It was advocated by another Afro-American activist, Malcolm X. Unlike Dr Martin Luther King, he believed that blacks should have a separate nation. He wanted Afro-Americans to be independent of the American rule.
He was a radical leader who popularised the idea that blacks should fight for their independence and self-rule. And for doing this, they should not hesitate in using any means including armed conflict.
