Question

How did you get the characters from your parents and grand-parents?

Open in App
Solution

The passing of characters or traits from one generation to the next generation is called inheritance or heredity. The characters which were present in our grandparents were inherited by their children i.e. our parents and their siblings who in turn passed those traits to their next-generation i.e. us.
During fertilization, each gamete carries traits from either parent and when they fuse, the zygote receives one set of chromosomes from the mother and one set from the father.
Thus, traits are passed to us by our parents during the process of sexual reproduction.
