Question

How do a water drop get its shape if water do not have a fixed shape and volume?

Open in App
Solution

Water drop gets its shape due to its surface tension. The inner molecules of water drop experience attractive forces from all directions whereas the molecules at the surface only experience attractive pull from the inner molecules. As a result a tension is created at the surface that leads to the surface molecules contract inner side and hence form a drop shape.
