Question

How do algal blooms affect the life in water bodies?

Open in App
Solution

Eutrophication is the phenomenon involving nutrient enrichment of a water body leading to the growth of algae or algal blooms. These algae uptake the dissolved oxygen from the water body making it unavailable for the aquatic life causing their ultimate death. The decomposition of these dead organisms further depletes the water body of oxygen.
