An allergen is a foreign substance that can cause an allergic reaction in the body.
It can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion or through the skin.
Common allergic reactions, such as hay fever or seasonal allergy, hives, and certain types of asthma, are linked to an antibody produced by the body known as immunoglobulin E (IgE).
Each IgE antibody might be very specific, reacting against certain pollen dust and other allergens.
