Question

How does amoeba remove waste?

Open in App
Solution

Ameoba:

Amoeba is a unicellular protozoan capable of altering its shape.

Excretion in amoeba:

  1. Since amoeba is unicellular, it does not have any special excretory organs.
  2. The undigested food particles to be excreted are present in the food vacuole.
  3. The vacuole is pushed towards the exterior of the cell and is ejected out via diffusion.
  4. Specialized vacuoles known as contractile vacuoles are also present.
  5. They collect the wastes generated by the cell and move towards the plasma membrane where it ruptures to release the waste material.
