Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Echo

Echo is defined as the phenomenon due to which repetition of sound is heard after reflection from a distant object such as hillock or high building, after the original sound from a given source dies off.

Step 2: How bats locate their prey

  1. Bats locate their prey by echolocation. They have a keen sense of hearing that guides them to locate their prey even in darkness.
  2. Bats produced a stream of high-pitched sound during hunting time.
  3. Sound waves produced by the bats hit an insect or other animal, the echoes bounce back to the bat which helps them to locate their prey.
  4. The echoes also guide the bat how they must turn in the air to avoid colliding with one another or object.
