Blood plasma contains protein fibrin in its soluble form. When a tissue is injured, the blood vessels present in it get exposed. It stimulates the blood platelets to initiate the process of blood clotting and chemical reactions start. Fibrin turns into its insoluble form and a meshwork of these fibres is formed at the cut end of the blood vessel. The cells present in the blood i.e. RBCs, WBCs and platelets get caught in this meshwork and gradually a plug is formed which prevents bleeding and further infection.
