  1. Diatoms are also known as brown algae because they can do photosynthesis.
  2. They absorb carbon dioxide from the environment and purify the air.
  3. These are the main, producers of the sea.
  4. Diatoms also filter the water.
  5. In the cell wall of diatoms, silica is found. When they die they leave cell wall deposits, this is called diatomaceous earth.
  6. This diatomaceous earth is used commercially for polishing and filtration of oil and syrups.
  7. Thus, diatoms help humans.
