How do fossil fuels, cause air pollution?

Fossil fuels are the major cause of air pollutants in the air. The following air pollutants air released due to burning of fossil fuels. (i)Oxides of sulphur: Fossil fuels contain sulphur. On combustion they produce sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide. These oxides form sulphuric acid and sulphurous acid in the atmosphere. These acids are harmful and corrode the marble. (ii) Oxides of carbon: Fossil fuels produce carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Both are noxious gases. (iii) Oxides nitrogen: Nitrogen dioxide is a pungent gas and is produced by the oxidation of nitric oxide. (iv)Particulate matter: Generated from automobiles and industries. (v)Ethylene: It is produced from incomplete combustion of fossil fuels by automobiles.
