Question

How do gymnosperms conserve water?

Open in App
Solution

Gymnosperms:

  1. Gymnosperms are vascular plants that produce seeds.
  2. Seeds produced by gymnosperms are naked, i.e., without any integuments.
  3. Gymnosperm plants are generally found in colder regions where there is snowfall.
  4. The trees found in such groups are woody and perennial, having bushes.
  5. Gymnosperms do not have any ovaries and thus do not bear fruits.

Conservation of water by gymnosperms:

  1. Gymnosperms have leaves that are needle-like and thus transpiration does not take place to a greater extent.
  2. The needle-like leaves do not provide much surface area and thus water loss through transpiration is minimal.
