Question

How do insects help in pollination?

Open in App
Solution

Pollination through insects:

  1. Insects pollinate flowers when they go in search of food.
  2. The pollination that occurs through the insects is termed entomophily.
  3. Flowers produce a sugary liquid called nectar which many insects consume.
  4. Upon landing on a flower, pollen grains tend to stick to their bodies.
  5. When such insects move from one to another flower of the same species, pollen gets transferred to the stigma of flowers thereby causing pollination.
  6. The insects which visit and cause pollination are bees, moths, butterflies, wasps, drones, etc.
