Reproduction in mushrooms.
Mushrooms reproduce either sexually or asexually.
Sexual Reproduction;
some mushrooms reproduce sexually during which the hypae of two different mating types fuse together. As the result a new fruiting body is formed, which is commonly know as the mushroom.
Asexual Reproduction;
asexual reproduction takes place either through spores or mycelia, fragmentation/budding.
The mycelia of the fungi split into two pieces and each pieces grow into new mycelia.
Asexual spores are genetically identical to their parents. The reproductive sacs called sporangium holds the released spores.Spores may also be released outside the sporangium. These spores are formed at the ends of conidiophores . There are much nuclei present inside the spores which is divided into individual cells. Each cell has a thick wall which acts as a protective cover. The spores break off and are dispersed.
Adverse environmental conditions often cause sexual reproduction in fungi.
