How do mycorrhizal fungi help the plants harbouring them?
Open in App
Solution
Mycorrhiza
Mycorrhiza are the symbiotic association of fungi with the roots of plants.
Benefits to the plant
These fungi take phosphorus from the soil and pass it to the plant.
The association helps the plant to develop resistance to root-borne pathogens.
It makes the plant tolerant to drought and salinity and enhances plant growth and development.
The fungal filaments increase the surface area of the root hair for absorption of water.
