Question

How do particles in liquids change their positions?

Open in App
Solution

  • Anything that occupies spaces and has mass is known as matter.
  • For example - table, chair, air, etc.
  • There are majorly three states of matter - solids, liquids, and gas based on the intermolecular distance between the constituent of matter.
  • The molecules can move only when there are gaps or space between them, this space is called intermolecular space.
  • The order of intermolecular spaces are - Solids < Liquids < Gases
  • Since there are moderate intermolecular spaces between liquid particles. Hence, they have a tendency to flow and change their mean position.
