Question

How do plants absorb nutrients?

Open in App
Solution

Nutrient absorption in plants:

  1. The major plant nutrients are nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), and also other important nutrients are calcium, magnesium, and sulphur.
  2. Legume plants can fix atmospheric nitrogen in their roots. Otherwise, plants can consume nitrogen from fertilizers that are given to the soil.
  3. Plant roots generally absorb nutrients from the soil when they absorb water as the nutrients remain dissolved in it.
  4. They mainly uptake the nutrients by the diffusion process.
  5. Also, they get oxygen from the air through leaves.
