Question

how do root hair increase the surface area for absorption of water?

Open in App
Solution

Each root hair zone has thousands of root hairs. Root hairs are tubular outgrowths. Each root hair has a central vacuole filled with osmotically active cell sap and a peripheral cytoplasm. The wall of root hair is thin and permeable to water. Root hairs absorb capillary water from soil particles.
