How animals sense earthquakes : 1.5 Marks
How bats hunt : 1.5 Marks

Some animals are able to sense infrasounds. It is observed that these animals get disturbed before earthquakes. It happens because earthquakes produce low-frequency infrasound before the main shock waves begin, which possibly alerts these animals.

Bats on the other hand use ultrasounds for hunting. Bats search out prey and fly in dark night by emitting and detecting reflections of ultrasonic waves. The high-pitched ultrasonic squeaks of the bat are reflected from the obstacles or prey and returned to bat’s ear. The nature of reflections tells the bat where the obstacle or prey is and what it is like.
