Question

How do the hit and trial method of balancing equations differ from the partial equation method?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Balanced equation: An equation with the same number of atoms of each element on both sides of the arrow.
  2. Methods of balancing equation: There are two methods used to balance a chemical equation- The hit and trial method and the Partial equation method.

Hit and trial method

Partial equation method

  1. It is used to balance the simpler equations.
  1. It is used to balance the complex equations.

2. In this method, the coefficients of reactants and products are adjusted in order to make the number of atoms of each element equal on both sides of the equation.

2. In this method, the overall reaction takes place in two or more simpler reactions. Each such reaction is called a partial equation.

  • These partial equations are then balanced by the hit and trial method and lastly added together.
