Question

how do virus cause diseases?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Viruses are commonly known as biological puzzles because they are non-living when present outside the host body & living when present inside the host. They cannot grow, multiply on their own. They contain only DNA / RNA as genetic material covered by a protein coat known as capsid. When any virus infects the host cell, the capsid wall breaks resulting in the release of genetic material into the host cell. Virus itself does not undergo any changes, it brings changes in host cells. On entering host cell, the genetic material of virus gets attached with the host genetic material and acquires its machinery to carry out replication. This increases the number of viruses in the host cell to a large extent. As a result the wall breaks and all virus particles spread in the host body causing viral infections.
