Question

How do waves move through a medium?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A wave is the disturbance of a medium that travels from one point to another point.
  2. The particle of the medium vibrates either upward and downward or forward and backward, when they vibrate they pass the energy to the disturbance of the particle next to them, which passes the energy next to them, and so on. The particle of the medium does not move but the wave keeps moving.
  3. The waves travel through the medium by causing molecules to bump into each other like falling dominoes transferring energy from one object to another.
