How do we get silk from silkworms?

Sericulture:

1. Sericulture is the practice of raising silkworms for the purpose of producing silk.
2. Silkworms are silk moth caterpillars.
3. They are given mulberry leaves to eat and are allowed to pupate and spin their cocoons.
4. The silkworms inside the cocoons are subsequently killed by submerging them in boiling water.
5. The silk filaments are eventually removed from the cocoons using a technique known as reeling.
