How do we hear the sound?

Open in App
Solution

Structure of the human ear

Mechanism of hearing

  1. Sound vibrations in the air enter the funnel-shaped outer part of the ear and reach the eardrum.
  2. These vibrations make the eardrum vibrate.
  3. The vibrations of the eardrum then reach the inner ear or Cochlea through ear bones or Ossicles.
  4. Inside the Cochlea or inner ear, there are numerous tiny hair cells.
  5. The hair cells then convert the vibrations into electrical signals.
  6. These electrical signals then reach the brain through the Auditory nerve and finally sound is detected.
