Question

How do we obtain two DNA molecules when replication is complete?

Open in App
Solution

Process of obtaining two DNA molecules after replication:

  1. DNA is composed of two polynucleotide chains forming a double helix pattern with each other.
  2. When DNA replication occurs, the two strands of DNA get unwinded and separated by a certain enzyme called helicase.
  3. A new strand is synthesized from each of the template DNA by the DNA polymerase enzyme.
  4. The newly synthesized strands are complementary to the parenteral strands.
  5. Once synthesis occurs, the enzyme called DNA ligase seals the sequence of DNA having a newly synthesized daughter strand and a parental strand resulting in two DNA molecules of double helix structure.DNA replication
