We can see only when there is light coming from the object and falling in our eyes. Not all objects can produce light of their own, some reflect light falling on them. The object which does not produce their own light is called a non-luminous object. When light falls on a non-luminous object, it is reflected by the surface towards us and that is how we see the object.
