Question

How do we sip liquids using a straw?

Open in App
Solution

Liquid flows from high pressure to low pressure. When we sip a liquid through the straw, we decrease the air pressure in the straw by removing the air from it. The pressure inside the straw then becomes lower than the atmospheric pressure. Due to this pressure difference, the atmospheric pressure pushes the liquid up the straw. The more air we remove from the straw, the higher up the liquid will be pushed into it.
