How do we tell the difference between what is alive and what is not?

• The most important thing is living thing has self consciousness but non living things doesn't.
• Living things need food while non-living things do not need food
• Living things respond to stimuli but non-living things do not respond to stimuli
• Living things grow while the non-living things do not grow .But this can contradicts as we can see that the height of mountain can be increased by adding more soil there is growth. Although it is considered as a difference
