Question

How do yeast and fungi obtain their nutrition?

Open in App
Solution

Organisms like fungi (like bread moulds), yeast and mushrooms break-down the food material outside the body and then absorb it. Such organisms do not obtain their nutrition by taking in the whole material and breaking it down inside their bodies. This parasitic nutritive strategy is used by organisms like cuscuta (amar-bell), ticks, lice, leeches and tape-worms.Some fungi are also saprophytes and they derive nutrition from dead and decaying matter.
