Scientists have developed instruments like seismograph which measures the intensity of the earthquake and detects the source of earthquake. If this instrument was not developed than we would not have got an idea about the intensity and cause of earthquake. [2 marks]

Another major contribution was the Richter scale developed by Sir Charles Francis Richter in 1935. This scale Measures the intensity of the earthquake on a scale from 1 - 10. This scale is used to rate the magnitude of an earthquake, that is the amount of energy released during an earthquake. [2 marks]
