It tells us how fast something or someone is traveling. You can find the average speed of an object if you know the distance traveled and the time it took.

The formula for speed:

$\mathrm{Speed}=\frac{\mathrm{Distance}}{\mathrm{Time}}$

Example:

What is your speed if you travel 3600 m in 30 minutes?

Use the formula for speed,

$$\begin{gathered} \mathrm{Speed}=\frac{\mathrm{Distance}}{\mathrm{Time}} \\ \mathrm{Speed}=\frac{3600}{30\times 60} \\ \mathrm{Speed}=2\mathrm{meter}/\mathrm{second} \end{gathered}$$

Hence, your speed if you travel 3600 m in 30 minutes is 2 m/s.
