Question

How do you calculate the period and frequency?

Open in App
Solution

Frequency

  1. Frequency is defined as the number of complete waves produces in unit time.
  2. The unit of frequency is Hertz.
  3. It is the ratio of velocity and wavelength of a wave. i.e, f=νλ, where v and λ is the velocity and wavelength of light.

Time period

  1. Time period is the necessary time to complete a single wave.
  2. The unit of time period is second.
  3. Time period is defined by the formulae, T=2πω=1f, where ω is the angular frequency of a wave and f is its frequency.
  4. ω=2πf.

Calculation of time period and frequency

If we know the velocity and wavelength of the wave before, then it is easy to find out the frequency by the above formulae f=νλ . after calculation of the frequency we can measure the time period using T=2πω=1f.
