Myelinated nerve fibre:

  1. The myelinated nerve fibers are axons of neurons that are enclosed by internodal lengths of the myelin sheath, this nerve fibre helps in faster transfer of nerve impulses.
  2. Conduction of impulse along a myelinated nerve fibre is called saltatory conduction because of the ionic changes and consequent depolarization.
  3. Saltatory conduction is the propagation of action potentials along myelinated axons from one node of Ranvier to the next node, increasing the conduction velocity of action potentials.
