Classification of expressions:
An expression is a combination of terms that are combined by using mathematical operations such as subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division .
For example, etc.
We can classify the expression according to these 3 conditions :
- Based on the number of terms expression contains
- Based on highest degree of the terms
- Based on number of variables it contain
1) Based on number of terms expression contains
- Monomial : Expression contains only one term . Example :etc
- Binomial : Expression contains two terms . Example :
- Trinomial : Expression contains 3 terms . Example :
- Polynomial :Expression containing two or more terms
2) Based on highest degree of the terms
- First Degree: It is an algebraic expression with degree (1). Example :
- Second Degree: It is an algebraic expression with degree (2). Example :
- Third Degree: It is an algebraic expression with degree (3). Example :
And so on.
3) Based on number of variables it contain
- With One Variable :Example :
- With Two Variables : Example :
And so on.
Hence, the expression can be classified on these 3 conditions .
