Conversion of Cartesian to vector :

Step 1: Equation of line of Cartesian form

The Cartesian form of equation of a line passing through the point (x1,y1,z1) and having the direction cosines a, b, c is

x-x1a=y-y1b=z-z1c

Step 2 : Equation of line in vector form

r=a+λbwhere,a=x1i+y1j+z1kb=ai+bj+ck

Step 3: Substituting the value of (x1,y1,z1),a,b,cin vector form

r=(x1i+y1j+z1k)+λ(ai+bj+ck)
