Respiration is the movement of oxygen from the environment to the lungs and then travels to the cells within tissues and the removal of carbon dioxide in the opposite direction, that's to the outside environment.
The respiratory rate is also known as the breathing rate.
This is the number of times a person inhales per minute.
The rate of breathing can be measured by counting the number of times a breath is taken over the course of one minute while at rest.
To get an accurate measurement:
Make the person sit down and relax.
The respiratory rate should be measured while sitting up straight on a bed or chair.
Measure the breathing rate by counting the number of times the chest or abdomen rises over the course of one minute.
