Question

How do you find the speed of a circular motion?

Open in App
Solution

Circular motion:

  1. If an object moves in such a way that its distance from the center point is constant, then its motion is said to be circular motion.
  2. Circular motion is the term used to describe any motion performed by an object which is roughly circular.
  3. In a circular motion, the object covers a distance equal to the circumference of the circle.
  4. The object is moving uniformly in a circle, so its speed doesn't change, but its velocity does as the direction of motion shifts.

Speed of circular motion:

If a body moves in a circle of radius r and covers a distance equal to the circumference of the circle, then 2πrThis distance is covered in timeT. Consequently, the speed of a body in a circular motion is S=2πrTwhere r is the radius of the circle and T represents the time period.
