How do you increase the pressure by keeping
(a) area unchanged and
(b) force unchanged?

Open in App
Solution

Pressure = Force Area

So pressure is directly proportional to force and inversely proportional to area.
You can increase the pressure by changing either force or area or both.

a) If you want to increase pressure while keeping area unchanged,
you have to change force.
Since pressure is directly proportional to force, increase the force.

b) If you want to increase pressure while keeping force unchanged,
you have to change area.
Since pressure is inversely proportional to area, decrease the area.
